UPDATE — Policed say a Fort Atkinson man and his three children, missing since last week, have been located and are safe.

Hui Zhu, 35, and his three children were located in South Carolina, one week after they were last seen in Wisconsin, according to a statewide Dept. of Justice crime alert.

No additional details were immediately released.

FORT ATKINSON — Police are searching for a Wisconsin man accused of taking three children from his wife and threatening to take them to China against her wishes.

The man and the couple’s three children, ranging in age from 3 months to 11 years, have been missing for nearly a week.

Hui Zhu was last seen at 2 a.m. Monday, July 23, according to a statewide crime alert sent Saturday evening by the Wisconsin Department of Justice. On Sunday, police said they received information that Zhu, who goes by the nickname “Kenny,” may be armed.

Authorities are now looking for Zhu and his 3 children, 3-month-old Elina Zhu, 3-year-old Evelyn Zhu and 11-year-old Jefferson Zhu.

Zhu’s wife told police her husband’s mental stability has been deteriorating the past six months and that he had become increasingly paranoid the days before he vanished with the couple’s children.

According to the release, Zhu phoned his wife Meixin Lin  at about 10 a.m.Monday at and stated he was at O’Hare airport in Chicago with the couple’s three children and was planning to board a flight to China.

Zhu did not board a flight, but left O’Hare in a 2015 white Ford F-150 with Wisconsin plate LH4873, according to police. Investigators say Zhu had $7,000 in cash and the children’s birth certificates. The vehicle was last seen Wednesday in West Virginia.

Police urge the public to use caution when encountering him. The public is asked to call 911, and not approach if he is seen.
