WAUSAU — A 36-year-old man convicted twice of sexually assaulting a child will be released in Wausau next week, officials announced Monday.

George G. Fischer has reached his mandatory release date and will be living in Wausau after Aug. 8. Fischer was convicted in 2004 in two separate cases of second degree sexual assault of a child, according to court records. He was again convicted in 2016 of third degree sexual assault.

Current state law requires sex offenders to be released into the county in which they were convicted.

Fischer, who will be on extended supervision for an additional three years, will be monitored by sex offender agent specialists out of the Division of Community Corrections Office based in the Marathon County Courthouse and will be placed in the intensive supervision program. He will be living in transitional housing near the Marathon County Courthouse and will be subject to the Department of Corrections Global Positioning System (GPS).

Fischer will initially be on a highly restricted schedule consisting of time out in the community for work and treatment. His ongoing address and status will be updated and available online by accessing the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry at www.widocoffenders.org.
