WAUSAU — A 23-year-old man is suspected of starting a fire early Monday that destroyed a Kronenwetter garage and a pickup that was parked inside, officials confirmed Tuesday.
Tyler Atkinson of Kronenwetter is being held in the Marathon County Jail on preliminary arson charges, according to jail reports. He is expected to be formally charged later today.
Crews were called at about 2:30 a.m. Monday to a report of a blaze at the Timber Creek Apartment complex, 938 Kronenwetter Dr., where they found flames and heavy smoke pouring from a garage. Investigators say Atkinson lived at the apartment complex.
Several departments were called in to assist in fighting the blaze, which was contained to a four-stall garage.
No one was injured in the blaze.
