KALAMAZOO — The Wisconsin Woodchucks on Tuesday morning cruised past Kalamazoo by a score of 6-1, marking the first win against the Growlers this season.

The Chucks played a relatively close game early with a tie score of 1-1 heading into the top of the 6th inning. Then the Chucks bats broke open to score five runs the rest of the way to take the game by five runs.

The Chucks were led by their strong pitching effort today, as starting pitcher Greg Dunham set the tone on the bump right away, going five innings without letting up an earned run. Pitchers Trey Horton, Orsen Josephina, and All-Star Frank Frate followed up with four innings of scoreless ball in relief.

Alex Toral got hot early, hitting a home run in the 2nd inning and would go 3 for 5 on the day with two runs scored. Brandt Broussard’s RBI single in the top of the 6th, brought in two chucks runs to take the lead and the team would not look back after that.
