WAUSAU — Barn hunts are sweeping the country and a local kennel club is getting in on the excitement.

The Paper Cities Kennel Club will hold Barn Hunt trials on Friday, Aug. 10, through Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Stable Hands Equine Therapy Center, 10710 Evergreen Drive in Wausau.

Barn Hunt is based on the traditional roles of many breeds in ridding farms, barns, crop storage areas and homes of destructive vermin, according to the Paper Cities Kennel Club. Some breeds were specifically created to fill this role, and for many of those breeds, Barn Hunt provides their first opportunity for breeders to test proper working traits in their dogs.

Barn Hunt is open to any dog of any breed or mix that can fit through an area that is 18” wide by a bale-height tall tunnel. Barn Hunt has titles, levels of increasing difficulty and championships.

Register your dog(s) at barnhunt.com, where you also can find the rules. Dogs must be older than 6 months to compete. Spectators are welcome.

The trials are held under the Barn Hunt Association rules and regulations.
