EAGLE RIVER —A 37-year-old Eagle River man is facing 12 felony charges after an investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, according to a DOJ news release issued Thursday.
Ryan A. Frederick faces 10 counts of possessing child pornography and two counts of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon in Vilas County Circuit Court.
The ICAC Task Force was assisted by the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office and Eagle River Police Department and relied in part on Alicia’s Law, legislation that expedites the procedure for finding the location of suspected internet sex predators.
“During my nearly 30-year career in law enforcement, I’ve learned that investigations involving the exploitation of children are some of the most difficult investigations conducted by special agents and local law enforcement, and the advent of the Internet has made the investigations and subsequent potential prosecutions even more complicated,” said WisconsinAttorney General Brad Schimel, in a prepared statement. “Alicia’s Law was a tremendous help and allowed our investigators act on a tip very quickly in this case.”
The charges were filed Aug. 8 with an adjourned initial appearance scheduled for Aug. 20. Frederick is free after posting a $5,000 cash bond.
