WAUSAU — A 47-year-old man accused of breaking into his estranged wife’s residence and threatening her with a handgun is in custody, police said.
Freddie P. Henderson of Wausau was arrested Sunday evening after a Marathon County Sheriff’s Deputy located the suspect’s vehicle at an apartment complex in the 4400 block of Stewart Avenue, according to a news release.
Henderson, who faces preliminary charges of burglary, recklessly endangering safety and domestic-related disorderly conduct, is being held in the Marathon County Jail, police said. He was also wanted on a felony probation warrant through the Department of Corrections.
Officers were dispatched at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday to the 700 block of Jefferson Street for a report of a threat with a weapon, according to a Wausau Police Department news release.
Police tried contacting Henderson using a loudspeaker but were not successful. By the time officers entered, Henderson had fled, police said. No one was injured and the handgun was not recovered. Four children were inside the home when the incident took place, police said.
Henderson has a criminal history in Wisconsin that includes a 2014 conviction for recklessly endangering safety and two counts of manufacturing or delivering cocaine. In February 2014, he was sentenced to three years in prison and remains on extended supervision, according to court records.
Formal charges are expected to be filed later today.
