WESTON — A suspected heroin delivery to a patient is to blame for a brief lockdown Friday at Marshfield Clinic and Ascension Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston, officials say.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. on Friday, Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital activated its emergency response procedures after a report of suspicious activity involving illegal controlled substances and the visitation of a patient in the hospital’s inpatient unit, according to a prepared statement released by Public Relations Manager Tom Weaver.

“After cooperation with local authorities and a thorough search of the facility, it was determined that the incident was isolated to that individual patient,” Weaver wrote. “It was determined that the visitors had left the facility and there was no threat to the building. Patient and associate safety was not impacted and care was not interrupted during the incident.”

The security measures were lifted at 12:15 p.m. allowing normal operations to continue.

Police say the public is not in any danger.
