WAUSAU — Wausau Police are reaching out to the public for help identifying a man suspected of shooting another man in the foot.

At about 9:10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, officers and paramedics responded to the area of Short Street and N. Third Street in Wausau for a report of a shooting. There, officers located 35-year-old Charles Rickett who was adjacent to the roadway with an apparent single gunshot wound to his foot, according to police.

Police say Rickett was uncooperative and was transported to a local hospital for what was deemed a non-life-threatening injury. He was treated for his injury and released.

The Wausau Police Department is now looking for the community’s help with identifying a person of interest related to the shooting.

Based on the initial investigation, a white man who was unknown to the victim intentionally fired a round from a handgun at close range striking Rickett in the foot. The shooting suspect then fled on foot to the north through an alley and was then observed by a neighbor going west between residences, according to a news release.

A business located in the direction the suspect ran captured a person of interest walking past on video surveillance. If you are this man, recognize him or have any information related to the shooting, please contact Detective Max LaPorte at 715-261-7854.
