MADISON, Wis. – Today, Attorney General Brad Schimel announced the successful prosecution of 53-year-old Sean G. Moore of Baraboo, Wis. Moore was found guilty in Juneau County Circuit Court of charges of Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child (At Least Three Violations of 1st Degree Sexual Assault), and three other felonies relating to the sexual assault of a child.
“With this conviction, justice has finally been served to this victim,” said Attorney General Schimel. “This was hard, emotional case. DOJ prosecutors worked hard with Juneau County Sheriff’s Office, Juneau County Department of Human Services, and victim services to support the victim, and see that justice was done.”
A related case against Moore’s wife, Christeen Moore, is pending.
According to a criminal complaint:
Juneau County detectives launched an investigation in March 2017 after receiving a report from the county’s Child Protective Services division (CPS). The report indicated Sean Moore had sexually abused a child in Mauston. Upon further investigation, detectives discovered Sean Moore had also videotaped sexual acts between other children in the home.
One of the children told a reporter from CPS they would watch the adults engage in sexual acts, watch other men have sex with Christeen Moore and view pornographic materials. A teenager allegedly sexually assaulted a child in the home while adults were present.
In April 2017 a forensic interview was conducted with one of the children at Safe Harbor in Madison. The child said Sean Moore forced her to perform sexual acts in different parts of the house on multiple occasions. The child said other children were present when the assaults happened and Sean Moore told them to perform acts on each other. Based on the interview, Sean Moore allegedly taped the acts on his cell phone, telling the children “this will be hilarious.”
Christeen Moore also allegedly documented certain acts on video. The child said the Moores left their bedroom door open while having sex and played pornographic movies for the children in their bedroom. The child, six years old at the time, also said she saw videos of Christeen Moore performing sexual acts on another woman and photos of her naked.
The case was investigated by the Juneau County Sheriff’s Department and prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Christopher A. Liegel of the Wisconsin Department of Justice. The Juneau County District Attorney’s Office Victim Witness Service Coordinator provided crime victim services and support.
On August 29, 2018, Sean Moore was found guilty at trial on charges of repeated sexual assault of the same child and three other related felonies. A sentencing hearing is scheduled on November 26, 2018. Sean Moore faces a maximum sentence of 137 years with mandatory minimum 25 years in the Wisconsin State prison system.
Christine Moore, who faces charges of failing to act on a sexual assault of a child and causing a child younger than 13 to view or witness a sexual act, remains jailed on a $20,000 cash bond. Future court dates for Christine Moore have not been set.
