LINCOLN COUNTY — No injuries were reported Friday in a vehicle fire that slowed northbound traffic for about 45 minutes, police said.

A Lincoln County deputy was on patrol at about 11 p.m. near Lincoln Drive when he spotted a northbound Chevrolet truck with smoke coming from the vehicle. When the vehicle was stopped, the driver opened the hood and flames shot from the engine compartment, police said.

The deputy put out the flames with a fire extinguisher and the Merrill Fire Department responded to check for hot spots, according to a weekly update from Lincoln County.
