WAUSAU — Two additional liens have been filed in connection with the stalled Riverlife Villages project, according to court filings.

Ayres and Associates, an Eau Claire firm that was contracted directly by the development team to design and install a geopier foundation system for the project, filed a primary contractor lien Aug. 30 in Marathon County Circuit Court for $38,503.84.

Court documents show Ayres performed work valued at $120,590.17 and has so far been paid $83,086.33. The construction lien names Wausau Riverlife, LLC and Barker Financial, LLC.

“It is Ayres Associates, Inc.’s understanding that either Wausau Riverlife, LLC or Barker Financial, LLC have leasehold interests in the…properties,” a letter from Ayres Wausau attorney states.

On July 20, 2017, during a Board of Public Works meeting, city leaders approved a “developer payment” to Ayres for $13,500. According to minutes from that meeting, Ayres was then considered a subcontractor that was being paid by the city, though the city of Wausau is not named in the current construction lien.

Court documents show Barker Financial and Wausau RIverlife were both served with a notice of an intent to file a lien in July.

Also on Aug. 30, Foundation Service Corp. of Hudson, Iowa filed a subcontractor lien for $170,522. Foundation Service had been contracted by the Samuels Group for work performed at the site in November and December, court documents show. An earlier lien filed by Foundation Service in June is for $294,133.53.

To date, none of the seven liens, at least three of which are from primary contractors, have been satisfied.
