KRONENWETTER — More than 700 runners participated this week in an annual event that honors the memory of the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th, 2001.

The fourth annual Run for the Fallen was held Sept. 8 in Kronenwetter. Participants included runners from more than 40 fire departments in four different states. The Salvation Army of Marathon County provided more than 1,000 meals to attendees.

Diane Nowak of the Salvation Army, who spent time at Ground Zero in the days after the attack, gave the opening prayer at the start of the event.
