TIGERTON — An investigation is underway into the death of a 46-year-old Tigerton man who died while working with logging equipment at a lumber company.

The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department was notified about the incident at about 8 a.m at Tigerton Lumber Company, 121 Cedar St., in Tigerton. Rescue crews attempted to resuscitate the man but were not successful, authorities said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the worker’s death, Wausau Pilot and Review has confirmed. OSHA investigates all work-related fatalities in all covered workplaces.

Employers must report worker deaths to OSHA within eight hours. The agency has up to six months to complete an investigation and determine whether citations are appropriate.

Federal records show the lumber company was issued an $18,200 fine in January 2013 in connection with seven workplace safety violations, six of which were deemed by OSHA as “serious,” but the company agreed to pay a reduced penalty of $12,300.

The name of the victim has not been publicly released.
