WAUSAU — A Wausau man is facing felony charges after allegedly threatening to blow up the Capital building and Gov. Scott Walker over a dispute with the Wausau Police Department.
Travis Manteuffel, 33, faces charges filed Friday in Marathon County Circuit Court of making terrorist threats, making threats by unlawful use of the telephone and disorderly conduct. Mantueffel was ordered held on a $5,000 cash bond and ordered not to have any telephone contact with government agencies.
On Thursday, Manteuffel called the state Department of Justice asking to file a complaint about Wausau Police and became agitated when he was told to submit the complaint in writing, police said. As Manteuffel’s anger escalated, prosecutors say, so did his threats.
The Wausau Police Department was contacted after the call by the DOJ and officers arrested Manteuffel at his home.
Manteuffel has a prior criminal history including two 2011 convictions in Portage County Circuit Court for unlawful use of the telephone, court records show.
A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 1.
