WAUSAU — A 47-year-old Stratford man will spend five years in prison after being convicted of his seventh drunken driving charge.
James Scott Glenn appeared Friday in Marathon County Circuit Court for a sentencing hearing. At the hearing, Circuit Judge Jill Falstad ordered Glenn to spend five years on extended supervision following his release from prison and maintain absolute sobriety.
Police say Glenn was driving just after 9 p.m. March 24 on Hwy. P near Brookfield Road when he veered off the road and went into the ditch.
Glenn initially told officers he was riding in the car while his friend, Matt, was driving the two from one bar to another when the crash happened, according to the police report. Police found no evidence that another man had been with Glenn, who told police the vehicle belonged to his own girlfriend.
Glenn refused to answer additional questions and was taken to a hospital for a chemical test of his blood. He was convicted of drunken driving twice in 1994, and once each in 1997, 2001, 2009 and 2015, court records show.
Glenn was given 180 days of credit for time served in the Marathon County Jail awaiting trial. His driver’s license will be revoked for 24 months.
If he fails to follow the rules of his probation, Glenn could spend an additional five years behind bars.
