WESTON — Weston Elementary School invites families and other community members to take part in STEAM family night in mid October.

This event, to be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at the school, gives attendees the opportunity to explore hands-on activities related to the school’s new STEAMformation initiative in partnership with Discovery Education.

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art/Design, and Mathematics) is an educational practice where students engage in project-based, cross-curricular learning to develop communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity skills that are essential to success in the 21st century.

Activities include:

  • Learning how to operate drones
  • Getting creative with green screens
  • Challenging one another in math games
  • Exploring robotics
  • Enjoying STEAM drumming sessions
  • Building straw boats
  • Engaging in lava lampapolooza

The event is free and open to the community. Light snacks will be provided and prizes will be awarded. The school is at 5200 Camp Phillips Road, Weston.
