Sept. 25 is Voter Registration Day: Register online before the Oct. 17 deadline

Today is National Voter Registration day, recognized on the fourth Tuesday of every September to raise awareness of the importance of voting and encourage participation in this year’s election.

If you’re not already registered to vote, why not register today? In Wisconsin, there are four ways to do it:

Online. Eligible voters in Wisconsin who have a valid Wisconsin drivers license or a Wisconsin DMV-issued ID can now register online at MyVote.WI.gov up to 20 days before the election in which they will vote. For the Nov. 6 election, the last day to register online is Wednesday, Oct. 17. Register to vote here.If your name, date of birth, Wisconsin drivers license or State ID number, and address all match the information on file with the Wisconsin DMV, you will no longer need to mail or deliver your registration form.

By Mail. Start your voter registration form online at MyVote.WI.gov, then print, sign and mail it to your municipal clerk along with a Proof Of Residence (POR) document. Your form and POR must be postmarked no later than 20 days before the election in which you are planning to vote. That makes the deadline Wednesday, Oct. 17, the same deadline as online registration.

In your Municipal Clerk’s Office. Register in person in your municipal clerk’s office any day preceding the election until 5 p.m. (or close of business) on the Friday before the election in which you are planning to vote. For the Nov. 6 election, that date is Friday, Nov. 2. Bring a proof of residence document to complete your registration (this document can be shown electronically).

At the Polls on Election Day. Yes, you can still register at the polls on Election Day. You will need to present a proof of residence document when registering (again, this document can be shown electronically). If your drivers license or state ID card has your current address, that’s all you need. Find your polling place here.
