The Newman Catholic and D.C. Everest high school’s varsity and junior varsity teams recently raised $6,270 for The Neighbors’ Place during a fundraising event specifically for the Wausau nonprofit agency.

The athletes also collected 346 pounds of food and personal care items at the Sept. 13 event, Volley for the Neighbors. The D.C. Everest JV3 team also participated in the event.

Over the last two years, these two volleyball teams have raised $12,380 for The Neighbors’ Place and collected 638 pounds of food and personal care items, according to a D.C. Everest event coordinator. The girls sold event T-shirts, 50/50 raffle tickets and donated baskets and items for raffles that were held the evening of the event. A number of area businesses also donated money or items to raffle off at the event.
