The UW-Stevens Point and Marshfield symphony orchestras will each hold a performance in their respective communities in October.
The UW-Stevens Point Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in Michelsen Hall at the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point. The concert will feature three dramatic works under the direction of Andy Moran, assistant professor of horn and orchestral director.
Pieces will include the popular Symphony No. 8 in B minor, “Unfinished,” by Franz Schubert, which has been featured in many film soundtracks, “Red Cape Tango” by Michael Daugherty, which is based on the legend of Superman and portrays a battle between the hero and the villain Doomsday, and “Overture to Nabucco” by Giuseppe Verdi.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out. The Marshfield Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield’s Helen Connor Laird Theater, 2000 W. Fifth St., Marshfield. The orchestra is directed by Richard Brunson, assistant professor of music.
Guest violinist David Leung, director of strings at the Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis, will perform in “The Lark Ascending” by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The orchestra will also perform the overture from “Four Years of War” by Franz Schubert, Slavonic Dances No. 10 by Antonin Dvorak and Symphony No. 3, “Eroica,” by Ludwig van Beethoven.
