WAUSAU — A 56-year-old woman found dead Tuesday afternoon at the Marathon County Jail has been identified as Melissa Graebner-Young of Wausau.

Graebner-Young had been booked into the jail shortly beforehand on a probation violation hold and suspicion of fifth offense OWI, police said.

Corrections officers conducting a routine cell check at about 3 p.m. Tuesday found the woman unresponsive in a receiving cell. Officers conducted lifesaving measures until about 3:07 p.m., when emergency crews from the Wausau Fire Department responded to the jail, but efforts to revive Graebner-Young were not successful.

An investigation into Graebner-Young’s death is underway and autopsy results are pending.

In a news release, Marathon County Chief Deputy Chad Billeb expressed condolences to Graebner-Young’s family and friends.

We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” Billeb said.
