WAUSAU — 89Q radio will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate its new location at 11 a.m. Oct. 19 at 3500 Stewart Ave. The event is open to the public.
“The station serves the greater Wausau and northcentral Wisconsin region, providing Christian music and programming that brings hope and encouragement on the air and in the community,” said Ryan Bair, operations manager, in a Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce news release.
89Q is owned by the nonprofit organization Christian Life Communications, Inc. and is known as the area’s Christmas music station.
The station began broadcasting in 1988 at 5,000 watts with a small band of volunteers. The station was originally located on Grand Avenue, and moved to a larger facility near the corner of Camp Phillips Road and Schofield Avenue in Weston in 1998. The signal reach for the station has grown, now broadcasting at 90,000 watts.
