WAUSAU — For the first time since 2012, the historic Wausau Log will be housed at Wausau East High School.

East beat West Friday night at Thom Field in the annual crosstown matchup by a score of 14-7 and took the traveling trophy home. Last year, West beat East by a score of 49-7.

East was the official home team, but the game was also West’s homecoming. The Warriors lead the series with a 30-17-1 record over the years.

The Log Game tradition traces back to 1971, when Ted Harenda, a parent of two students, teamed up with three local businesses to create the log trophy, in part as a fundraiser for foreign exchange programs at the schools.

East heads to Mosinee next week while West hosts Marshfield at Thom Field for the last game in the regular season.
