STEVENS POINT — Combine community, alumni, students, football and a new chemistry biology building and you’ve got a science-themed day of homecoming fun and activities.

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will host its annual homecoming on Oct. 20.

“Homecoming is the perfect opportunity for alumni and community members to come to campus, check out the new Chemistry Biology Building, enjoy a variety of activities and reconnect with their Pointer family and friends,” said Laura Gehrman Rottier, director of alumni relations, in a UWSP news release.

Attendees can start out their day with a tour of the Chemistry Biology Building, offered on the hour from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. by UW-Stevens Point admissions student ambassadors. Meet at the Common Ground Café on the first floor of the new building at the top of every hour. Self-guided tours are also available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – pick up a map and points of interest flyer at the café.

An alumni check-in tent will open at 10 a.m. at Goerke Field on Minnesota Avenue. Enjoy giveaways, free coffee and donuts and pizza, as supplies last. Join alumni and friends in the pop-up tents to celebrate the 50th reunions of the ROTC program and Student Government Association. An After-Class Reunion for professors and their former students and an all-Greek Reunion will be held. The Pep Band will also perform.

The Homecoming football game begins at 1 p.m. at Goerke Field. The Pointers will take on the UW-Stout Blue Devils. For tickets, call 715-346-4100.

A Centertainment/University Activities Board Reunion will be held at 1 p.m., and several Greek alumni will hold their annual meetings on campus. Also taking place is the Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19.

The 2018 Alumni Awards Banquet also will be held on Oct. 20., honoring three Stevens Point residents: Jon Greendeer, ’04, who will receive a Distinguished Alumni Award, and Tina and Don Peters, who will be honored with the Mary Ann Nigbor Volunteer of the Year Award. Other honorees include Distinguished Alumni Award winners Cindy Ratzlaff, ’74, Travis Livieri, ’93 and ’07, and Judy Galbraith, ’76; Lifetime Achievement Award winner Keno Hawker, ’69; and Trailblazer Award winner Gerald Avery Jr., ’08. Tickets for this banquet are no longer available.
