UWSP jazz musicians to perform spectrum of works

STEVENS POINT — Enjoy a spectrum of jazz sounds from big band to modern works as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble perform in concert.

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 in Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point. A wide variety of genres will be performed, including swing, blues, Latin, bop and modern, with featured student soloists.

The Jazz Band, directed by Myles Boothroyd, assistant professor of saxophone, will perform “In Roy’s Corner” “Lullaby of Birdland,” “Modal Mood,” “Blue Highways,” and “Inside Out.”

The Jazz Ensemble, directed by Mathew Buchman, professor and director of jazz studies, will perform “B.B.C.,” “Max (Revised),” “Dali,” “Just Friends,” “Cabesa de Carne” and “Better Git Hit in Your Soul.”

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out. Tickets may be purchased at the door if available. Proceeds benefit student scholarships.
