STEVENS POINT —  It will be hard to keep your feet still at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Oct. 18 as the Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs a “Song and Dance” concert and premieres a new work.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point. The program features pieces that are lyrical or rooted in folksongs, as well as a variety of dances from around the world. The ensemble is directed BY Michael Butler, assistant professor of music and director of bands.

The program will include the premiere of “Song for Silent Voices” by Wayne Oquin, for which Butler led the commission along with 30 other university and high school ensembles.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out. Tickets may be purchased at the door if available. Proceeds benefit student scholarships.
