WAUSAU — Habitat for Humanity of Wausau will host its 66th home dedication in October. The community is welcome to attend.
The home, at 2408 Gowen St., Wausau, will be open for viewing at 6 p.m., Oct. 22, with a dedication ceremony at 7 p.m.
Board members of Habitat for Humanity will lead the ceremony and presentations will be made by the Marathon County Republican Women, Altrusa Club and Peyton’s Promise, along with HFH of Wausau volunteers. The home was partially built by the Mosinee High School construction trades class, led by teacher Ron Klinner, according to a Habitat for Humanity news release. Students framed the home during the 2017-18 school year, which was transported and crane-set on its’ waiting foundation in May.
Much of the home site preparation and finish work was provided by HFH volunteers and the partner families. An average of 8-10 volunteers assisted each week from May through September.
“A home dedication is the culmination of many, many hours of volunteer work, on the part of students, teachers, volunteers and partner families,” said Berland Meyer, construction coordinator on site, in the news release. “It’s always a heartwarming experience.”
Habitat for Humanity of Wausau operates under the auspices of Habitat for Humanity International. Since 1990, the organization has been committed to helping low-income families achieve their dream of home ownership. Families apply and compete for qualification in the Home Ownership Program through a stringent screening process, verifying their ability to buy their homes.
