The Marathon County Public Library will host several events in the coming weeks at its various libraries.

Kids, tweens and teens are encouraged to visit the library for a day of fun with words from 3 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. today, Nov. 7, at the Marathon City Branch, 515 Washington St., Marathon City. Play word and vocabulary games like Scrabble, Upwords and Red Letter, or work on crossword puzzles, word searches and word chains. Call 715-443-2775 for more info.


Kids in grades K-5 can get their glow during a fun glow-in-the-dark event on Nov. 13 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau. Library staff will read books in the dark and offer a variety of glow-in-the-dark crafts. Free. Call 715-261-7220 for more info.

NEW! Celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday by making a turkey windsock on Nov. 19 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Mosinee Branch, 123 Main St., Mosinee. Kids can use bathroom tissue rolls, tissue paper and construction paper to make this festive fowl. Free. Call 715-693-2144 for more info.


NEW! Children can kick off the holiday season by writing a letter to Santa Claus. Beginning Nov. 19, parents can pick up a blank letter from Marathon County Public Library’s Athens or Hatley branches. Children can then drop off their completed letter in Santa’s Mailbox at the branches any time through Dec. 14. The library will send all the letters to the North Pole and children can expect to receive a handwritten response by mail in mid-December. Free.
