Dear Editor,
When I was growing up, there were times that my family depended on food pantries, or the church, for a meal. I will never forget strangers bringing food, and Christmas presents, to our house when I was in third grade. They did this out of compassion for others, for strangers.
In two weeks, Wausau Education Association teachers and friends have collected $3,500 for the Turkey Drive; the goal was $2,500. With the extra money, I have ordered extra turkeys from Trig’s in Schofield. There are too many people to thank, and too many strangers who have helped this cause.
As a child, I did not understand why a stranger would help someone they did not know. As an adult, it is on my heart, to help others, as I have been helped. But most of all, it is you, my friends, who have made this possible.
I try to live by the saying “You shall know them by the fruits of their spirit” As you have proven multiple times, when someone is in need, you will be there! I thank you for your love, and compassion toward others in need. Just as the strangers did not ask for a thank you when I was in 3rd grade, this Turkey Drive was not about me, it was about compassion for our community, taking action, and making a difference. For that, I can not thank you enough.
