WAUSAU — Police have identified the 92-year-old pedestrian who died after being struck last week on a Wausau street as Neil Olson of Wausau.

The crash was reported at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the intersection of North Sixth Street and Park Avenue. Mr. Olson, who stepped into the roadway before being struck by a passing vehicle, was transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital where he died of his injuries, police said.

According to Wausau Police Deputy Chief Matthew Barnes, the driver of the vehicle, Wausau resident Dean Dietrich, cooperated throughout the investigation. Speed was not a factor and no traffic violations occurred, Barnes said, adding that traffic on North Sixth Street was moderate to heavy at the time of the crash.

“This was a tragic incident and our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved,” Barnes said, in a news release issued Tuesday.

The Wausau Police Department investigated the crash and was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
