MARSHFIELD — A 33-year old man is facing criminal charges after a 30-minute standoff in Marshfield, according to a news release.

Police were called at 12:42 p.m. Thursday to the 1900 block of South Vine after receiving a 911 call from an apparently intoxicated man who reported he had a gun stolen from him.

When officers arrived they heard arguing with someone stating they had a gun to their head, police said. The apartment door opened and police learned the other occupants of the residence had taken a 9mm handgun away from a distraught man.

The gun was confiscated and the apartment was evacuated, along with neighboring apartments and a nearby retirement home. The distraught man, later identified as 33- year-old Kurtis Wegner, barricaded himself in a bedroom and had access to a rifle and ammunition, police said.

After about 30 minutes of negotiating with the Marshfield Special Response Team, Werner surrendered and is awaiting medical clearance before being transported to the Wood County Jail.

Wegner, who has a prior conviction for possessing a short barreled shotgun, faces expected charges of possessing a firearm as a felon and being armed while intoxicated, police said.

Charges are expected to be filed Friday.
