WAUSAU — A 28-year-old Wausau man will be sentenced in February on multiple felonies in connection with a violent domestic encounter with a former girlfriend at a Weston home.
Carrington D. Franklin was initially facing charges of attempted first degree intentional homicide in the case, a charge that was dropped as part of a plea agreement. On Tuesday, Circuit Judge Greg Strasser found Franklin guilty of second degree recklessly endangering safety, intimidating a victim, burglary, battery, strangulation/suffocation and disorderly conduct.
The charges carry a “repeater” enhancement, which means Franklin could be sentenced to more than the maximum 44 1/2 years in the Wisconsin Prison System he already faces. He has two previous felony convictions: one for possessing a short-barreled shotgun or rifle, the other for armed robbery, according to court documents.
Franklin is also subject to fines of up to $545,000 for his crimes.
Everest Metro Police Capt. Clay Schulz said officers were called to a Weston home in February in response to a 911 call in which they could hear a woman screaming. The woman, who had substantial injuries, was transported to a local hospital via ambulance for treatment.
Franklin has been held on a $750,000 cash bond since his arrest. He will be sentenced Feb. 26.
