STEVENS POINT, Wis. — Police say a knife attack that left two men injured early Sunday happened after the suspect cut in line to go to the bathroom at a restaurant.

Joseph Stalnaker, 28, of Stevens Point, faces anticipated charges of attempted first degree intentional homicide in connection with the altercation, which happened at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Polito’s Pizza in downtown Stevens Point.

Police say Stalnaker cut in line to use the restroom when another man confronted him, prompting a physical altercation. A man who tried to break up the fight was stabbed in the neck with Stalnaker’s knife, police said. That man suffered life-threatening injuries but is expected to recover. All three men were intoxicated at the time the fight took place, police said.

The man who confronted Stalnaker was also stabbed in the arm and is expected to face disorderly conduct charges, police said.

Police arrested Stalnaker hours later in Waupaca County and transported him to the Portage County Jail, where he remains held on a $50,000 cash bond.

An initial appearance is set for Dec. 3.
