An investigation began Tuesday when the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department School Resource Officer received a call from the school reporting a possible sexual assault of a student by an independently contracted employee working at the school. Upon investigation, detectives arrested Stavros Iliopolous on charges of first degree sexual assault of a child, false imprisonment and child enticement.

Iliopolous was an employee of Victory Janitorial, Inc., working at the school at the time of the alleged attack, according to police.

During an appearance Wednesday, Oneida County Circuit Judge Michael Bloom ordered Iliopolous held on a $50,000 cash bond. An adjourned initial appearance is set for Nov. 27.

Northwoods Community Elementary is a charter school located on Hwy. K, west of Rhinelander and serves about 100 students.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Department and the School District of Rhinelander are continuing their investigation of the alleged assault.

Iliopolous faces a maximum penalty of 91 years in the Wisconsin Prison System if he is convicted.
