WAUSAU — The Alexander Walkway in the Upper Third Street neighborhood has a holiday glow thanks to innovative and caring residents in the area.

“(This) brings neighbors together in this up-and-coming neighborhood of Upper Third Street,” said Blake Opal-Wahoske, executive director of Wausau River District, in a Wausau River District news release. “We are proud to call this area home and hope that this project literally lights the way for future development in the neighborhood.”

Gisy Marks, owner of the Glass Hat bar on Third Street, and others love the initiative as it continues the momentum of other recent projects in the neighborhood, such as Art Lives Here, the street art contest that placed over a dozen murals in the area in 2017: last year’s Christmas Lives Here project; and the construction of new townhomes on Third Street.

You can help keep the spirit of Christmas alive, too

Through Dec. 21, community members are invited to contribute a tree to the walkway. Anyone looking to add a tree is responsible for supplying the tree, decorations and contacting the Glass Hat for placement at [email protected].  Trees are available at a discount for participants at Newby’s Evergreen Farm.
