TOWN OF HANSEN, Wis. — One person is dead following an early morning crash Thursday in Wood County.

The crash was reported at about 6:30 a.m. on Elm Road in the town of Hansen, according to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department. Rescue crews arriving at the scene discovered a vehicle partially submerged in water in a ditch at a cranberry marsh with two people inside.

The driver of the vehicle, a man from New Berlin, died shortly after crews arrived, according to a news release.

The passenger was transported to Marshfield Medical Center. The severity of his injuries was not specified.

Police believe alcohol is a contributing factor in the crash, which could have happened some time before help arrived. The exact time of the crash is unknown, and police continue to investigate.
