Wausau– Charlie McCarty led the charge for Newman Catholic once again as the Cardinals came up with a 89-51 victory over Tri-County on Thursday afternoon.

McCarty was 9-13 from the floor and 6-8 from three point range.  He also grabbed eight rebounds.

Elliot Samuels netted 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Newman, while Ben Leischer added 12 points.

“Good team win for us tonight,” said Newman coach Dan Garrett. “We got a lot of people involved and I was really happy with our offensive execution. Charlie McCarty was great again for us tonight scoring 31 points and eight rebounds, he’s doing a great job letting the game come to him and getting after it.”

Newman took a 45-19 lead into halftime and outscored Tri-County 44-32 in the second half.

“We can enjoy this one tonight but we have a quick turnaround tomorrow playing Fall River in the championship game,” said Garrett.
