MARSHFIELD — A 75-year-old Marshfield mail order gift company will close in March, leaving 276 employees without jobs.

Mason Companies made the announcement on Jan. 4. Figi’s, Inc., is a subsidiary of Mason Companies, which purchased the Marshfield company in 2013. Figi’s was founded in 1944.

On Friday, the company laid off 129 employees, with another 147 workers slated for layoffs  in March. About 125 employees will be retained in the Figi’s call center and at a Stevens Point warehouse, according to company officials. There are no immediate plans to sell the building in Marshfield.

All employees affected by the closure will be given a severance package that includes 60 days of full salary and benefits, along with 60 days of access to employee assistance programs to assist them in finding new jobs.
