Co-founders of Never Forgotten Honor Flight Mike Thompson, president, and Jim Campbell, VP of marketing, presented framed photographs from the Sept. 17, 2018, flight #33, to Dale Lindwall on Dec. 26, 2018, at a Veterans Weekly Cup of Coffee meeting. Lindwall, a Vietnam combat veteran, had made the September flight possible by donating a 1948 Plymouth to a car club that raised money to send veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials built in their honor.
Lindwall had rescued a 1948 Plymouth Deluxe sedan from the top of a rock pile in the town of Texas in 2013 and restored it over three years. (He credits the project with helping him manage his post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms.) Eventually, Lindwall and his wife, Marie, donated the car to the Wisconsin Road Knights Car Club for a raffle. In August, the club donated the raffle proceeds of $43,835 to the Never Forgotten Honor Flight. The donation allowed 87 veterans to take their “trip of a lifetime” on flight #33 to see their memorials in Washington, D.C.
The Veterans Weekly Cup-of-Coffee meets from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday at Denny’s in Rothschild. All veterans of any age or era are welcome. The group provides support for each other and information of interest to veterans. For more information, call Mike at 715-355-5248.
