23122064 - snowy curvy road with traffic sign - sudden and heavy snowfall on a country road driving on it becomes dangerous

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Marathon County as a strong storm system approaches the area. Expect up to 3 inches of heavy snow to fall between Sunday night and Monday morning, weather officials say.

The advisory is in effect from midnight Sunday until 9 a.m. Monday.

Snow could mix with sleet and freezing rain in some areas before changing to rain from south to north during the day Monday. The wintry precipitation will make for hazardous travel conditions early Monday.

A winter weather advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads with limited visibility and use caution while driving.
