WAUSAU — Workers will pick up discarded Christmas trees for a two-week stretch beginning this week, according to a city of Wausau Facebook page post.

The city’s garbage and recycling contractor, Harter’s Disposal, will sweep continually through the city until Friday, Jan. 18, to dispose of trees. Residents should place the trees on their side so trunks do not become stuck in the ice and snow.

Extra large trees should be cut into manageable lengths.

Pickups will not happen on a regularly scheduled garbage collection day, but will be conducted throughout the two-week span.

Residents who want to dispose of their own tree can do so at the city’s yard waste site, located at the east end of Chellis Street, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Jan. 18.

If your tree is missed, call the Department of Public Works at 715-261-6971.
