Ascension at Home is offering a free, comprehensive training course for people who are interested in becoming hospice volunteers. Volunteers are assigned to roles dependent on their individual interests and abilities, as well as availability.

Hospice volunteers spend time reading aloud, holding a hand, completing a puzzle, playing music, taking a walk and/or simply being a friend to those in the final chapter of their life. In addition, hospice volunteers can provide breaks for caregivers, complete light housekeeping, run errands, provide pet therapy, honor veterans, assist with clerical work, sew Memory Bears, and/or promote hospice through outreach education. These volunteer opportunities offer a great amount of flexibility and tremendous opportunity for personal growth.

Personal training and ongoing support for all volunteer positions will be provided. Our free training sessions are available to anyone in the community and will be held:

  • From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 6 through Feb. 27, at Ascension at Home office, 1840 Post Road, Suite 5, Plover
  • From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 7 through Feb. 28, at Ascension at Home office, 2600 Stewart Ave., Suite 160, Wausau
