Local law enforcement this week presented the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial a $10,000 donation, money raised during the annual Marathon County Battle of the Badges tournament.

Two Battle of the Badges committee members on Thursday presented the check, which represents the largest single donation to the memorial in the fund’s history according to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.

The donation will help fun an addition to the memorial wall, which recognizes men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving the community. The current wall is nearly full.

This money was raised as a result of the annual Marathon County Battle of the Badges Tournament with the help of participants, sponsors, volunteers and the public that attends. The annual softball tournament is typically held in September at Sunnyvale Park in Wausau. Police, fire, and corrections officials participate.

The event has been held for five straight years.
