WESTON — 10K With a Cop Central Wisconsin will have its first training event Jan. 17 at D.C. Everest Middle School.

The 10 With a Cop program is designed to help build relationships between law enforcement officers and the community, teach kids the importance of goal setting and self discipline, and increase health and wellness through physical activity and mentorship. Officers from local police departments will partner with students with the goal of having the students, along with the officers, complete a 10K race.

Training will be held from 2:35 p.m. to 3:35 p.m. at D.C. Everest Middle School. The 10K With a Cop event will be held in late spring.

The EMPD Blue Hearts nonprofit group and Everest Metro Police Department will team up with Run to Remember LA (Los Angeles, California), the sponsoring organization of 10K With a Cop, to begin a central Wisconsin chapter.

This program will start at the middle school in the D.C. Everest Area School District, but additional schools in both the Everest and Wausau school districts plan to join the program. Additional information on the organization
and their partners can be found on on Facebook @10KwithaCopCentralWisco.
