Wausau– The CWS Student Athlete Spotlight focused on Ryan LaCerte of Wausau East this week.  Check out the story to see what makes him tick!

CWS: Now that we’re past the holidays and getting into the thick of the winter season, what are some positives for your team to this point and what are you hoping to accomplish moving forward?

LaCerte: I think that we have been doing a lot of things right in the first couple games. One of the biggest things I think we do very well is sharing the ball throughout our team. In games and practices we really trust that everyone on the floor can score, and we do not really care who scores in the games, just as long as we win.

CWS: How are you able to manage your time as a student athlete?

LaCerte: You do not really have much free time between school and athletics, but I think one big thing that helps me manage my time and stay organized is planning your things out for the whole week. Then you know what days you are more busy, and what days you have more time to do more things.

CWS: What can you say about the support your team gets from parents/fans/the community?

LaCerte: I think that we have one of the best supporting casts in the conference between fans and students coming to almost every home game cheering us on. Our parents love to see us succeed, and sacrifice a lot of their time to come watch us play. We also get some recognition from the community, people coming up to me at the YMCA when I am their asking me how we are doing this year, and they genuinely care about how we are doing.

CWS: What is your favorite subject in school?

LaCerte: My favorite subject in school would either have to be marketing or graphics.

CWS: What is something that people don’t know about you or would be surprised to learn about you?

LaCerte: I think some things that people may not know about me are I am a Christian, an outgoing person, and I like to collect shoes.

CWS: Snapchat, Instagram or Twitter?

LaCerte: I use all three but if I had to pick one, I would say snapchat is my go to. (@rtballer23)

CWS: What are your plans after high school?

LaCerte: I have given a lot of thought to what I am going to do after high school and I decided that I am going to play basketball in college, but currently undecided in where I am going to attend.

CWS: Who is your favorite professional athlete?

LaCerte: My favorite professional athlete is Dwayne Wade, I have always loved watching him as a kid, and still follow him in his NBA career.

CWS: What’s the best thing about being a student-athlete at East?

LaCerte: I think the best thing about being a student-athlete at Wausau East is the atmosphere that this school has for sports and education. They are very passionate about sporting events and really want our sports teams to do well. Not only is it fun playing a sport at Wausau East, but they also care immensely about the education that you are receiving.

CWS: What words of wisdom can you give to younger student athletes?

LaCerte: Have fun playing the sports that you love, but also make sure to take your education seriously. Find a way to manage to do both.  Being apart of a team is a very cool feeling, and you make a lot of friends too.
