WAUSAU — The Center for the Visual Arts has opened three new exhibits: “29th Annual Midwest Seasons,” “WVAA 42nd Members Art” and “Visual Narratives & Histories – Featuring Anders Shafer.”

This signature exhibit features artists from around the country who work in all mediums and styles that showcase the seasons of the Midwest.

The juror this year is Amy Cannestra, who holds a BFA in Communication Design from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design as well as a MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Opening Gallery Gala: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 22

In “Visual Narratives & Histories” Anders Shafer combines his interest in history and art history, and uses personal memories to create his paintings.

Shafer recently retired professor emeritus from UW-Eau Claire, where he was Max Schonefeld Distinguished Professor, teaching drawing, illustration, and painting. Shafer’s work has been exhibited in over 250 national and regional competitions. He has been represented in galleries and museums across the country, including the Smithsonian. Among his awards is one of the first given by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Attend the Opening Gallery Gala on Feb. 22 to hear Shafer speak about his artwork and artistic process.

The CVA galleries are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday – Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
