Milwaukee man charged in woman’s death in hospital ramp

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Prosecutors on Tuesday charged a Milwaukee man in a nurse practitioner’s death in a hospital’s parking garage.

Kenneth Freeman, 27, faces a charge of first-degree intentional homicide in Milwaukee County court.

Carlie Beudin, 33, was found trapped beneath her car early last Friday, bleeding and frozen in a parking garage of Froedtert Hospital, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported . The car had crashed into a wall of the parking ramp and no one was inside the damaged vehicle.

According to the complaint, security video shows Beudin walking out of an elevator of a different parking garage early that morning and Freeman, who is wearing a black and white jacket with the number “88” on it, standing behind a concrete pillar as Beudin walks toward her car.

Freeman stepped out from behind the pillar and talked briefly with Beudin, who continued walking toward her car, according to the complaint. The suspect ran after the victim, knocked her to the ground and kicked or stomped her almost 40 times in the head and neck, the complaint said.

Freeman dragged Beudin toward her car, which was seen on video driving away and then entering another ramp with a male driving it to the top level where Beudin’s body was found.

Police said Freeman called 911 that day and said he was involved in the death at the hospital ramp. According to the complaint, authorities located Freeman and found he had Beudin’s purse and was wearing a black and white jacket with the number “88” on it.

Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin said in a statement Tuesday that Freeman was employed by a parking service provider as a valet on the Froedtert Hospital campus from January to October 2018. The parking service provider confirmed that Freeman cleared a background check and was terminated for a nonviolent infraction, the statement said.

“Safety is our top priority. We have made security enhancements, and we will continue to make improvements,” the statement said.

Online court records do not list an attorney for Freeman, who remained in custody Tuesday.
