WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

Crews from multiple fire departments have been paged to the scene of a structure fire that broke out Tuesday east of Wausau, the second structure fire reported within a 30-minute span.

The blaze east of Wausau, which was reported initially as a possible barn fire, was called in just after 10 p.m. in the 2400 block of McIntosh Street for a report of a structure fire at what appears to be an auto towing and repair business. The business is located on the corner of 25th Street and McIntosh.

The building was engulfed by the time crews arrived on scene. As of 10:25 p.m., two vehicles were reported ablaze outside the building as firefighters battle subzero temperatures creating life-threatening conditions for the crews.

Firefighters from Hewitt-Texas, town of Wausau and town of Hewitt were immediately called to battle the blaze with additional units called within minutes of the first crews’ arrival on scene.

There’s no word yet on injuries or what might have caused the fire.

The blaze is the second structure fire reported Tuesday night in Marathon County. Crews were also battling a blaze at a town of Stettin home that appears to have started in the chimney. The Stettin blaze, at 1709 Sunnyvale Lane, was not contained as of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Two people and a dog escaped the home safely, officials said.
