WESTON — The Community Blood Center and Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital will host a blood donation event on Feb. 11.

It will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital in the Sister Lois Bush Conference Center A, B and C.

The event marks a new relationship between the blood center and the hospital. All presenting donors will receive a free long-sleeve T-shirt and will be entered to win a $100 Visa gift card.

This blood drive is critical because the cold, snow and icy weather has forced several blood drives to be canceled thus depleting the blood supply to local hospitals by half, according a Community Blood Center news release.

“Blood cannot be manufactured, it can only be given as a gift from one person to another,” John Hagins, president and CEO of The Community Blood Center, said in the release. “We are excited to expand into Weston, become a member of the greater Wausau community, and help share the gift of life with those in need.”

This new relationship means patients in the Weston and greater Wausau area will have the benefit of a dependable blood supply from a local organization.
