WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

NEENAH, Wis. — Police used an armored vehicle to break into a Neenah home where an armed, intoxicated man was threatening to shoot law enforcement officers.

In a news release sent out late Thursday morning, Neenah Police said officers were first alerted to the 400 block of Quarry Lane around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a man threatening another person in a home. Police say the man was in his early 30s, was intoxicated and had several weapons at his disposal.

Neenah Police also say that the suspect had armed himself with a firearm and was threatening to shoot law enforcement if they tried to enter his home. Police say the officers surrounded the home and the Neenah Police SWAT Team and negotiators were called in.

After several hours of what police called failed negotiations between the man and negotiators, Neenah Police say officers breached the front door using an armored vehicle. Within minutes, police say the suspect surrendered. Police say he was safely taken into custody.

Neenah Police searched the property early Thursday and a nearby middle school canceled classes due to the situation.

The name of the suspect has not yet been released.
